I come from Malta from a village called Zurrieq which has as its patron saint St Catherine of Alexandria. It has round twelve thousands inhabitantswhich when you consider that in the island of Malta there is round a quarter of a million people is quite a big village. Besides Zurrieq there is another village Zejtun which is bigger then ours which also has its patron saint St Catherine of Alexandria. As I am writing this message our village has just ended its festivities of celebrating St Catherine's feast which we hold in September as in November due to bad weather we cannot put up the amount of decorations we deem necessary to decorate our village to honour our patron saint. we have a big church which was built round 1343 which replaced a much older one full of antique and precious ornaments which our forefathers have accumulated throughout the years through their great love for St Catherine. My family is one that honours and loves dearly this saint and believe whole heartedly of her existence. My grandmother always stated that once she saw St Catherine in her room. As I said my family like other families in our village turn to ur patron sain in our hours of need and in 1939 the war in Malta had just begun. My granmother who had lost her husband used to pray for her four sons to St Catherine. Once she could not sleep and sat up in bed then she say St Catherine with a strong light behind her. The saint approached her placed three fingers on my grandma's cheek and told her that as her children were devoted to her she will take them to heaven and that my grandmother need not worry. My grandma woke up my mother but my mother dfid not see the apparition but she saw the great light. Three days after all this my eldest uncle died by an electric shoch. He was twenty fiver years old with two small children and his wife was pregnant with their third child who was then named after his father. A few months after my other uncle died.

In our village we also have a band club dedicated to her. This band club takes part in a lot of other feasts around Malta and even went abroad six times. There are a great number of people even youths who work all year round to build and preserve the precious things we have in our church, the church itself, the many street decorations we use to make our village ready to accept the statue of our patron saint St Catherine of Alexandria as she is going round in the procession held in the firt Sunday of September. I also like to mention the fireworks which also help to make our village feast one of the most popular in Malta. Besides all this I want to mention the great number of people named after the saint. In the past names like Katarina, Catherine, Katie were very popular and almost the oldest girl of every family was named in one of these names. Nowadays more modern names like Katia, Katriona, Katianne, Alexia , Alexander, Alessio are chosen to name our children.

Our village today is resting after a whole week of festivities which we take upon our selves toorganise in the most professional way possible. Entering our church yesterday was like entering heaven itself with seven chandeliers all made in Bohemia. With altars having the pictures painted by Matia Preti a known italian artist, with draperies for the altars made in Lyons in France, and above all with the processional statue of St Catherine sculpted by a Maltese sculpture who studied in Spain Mariano Gerada. The main concelebrant was the former Archbishop of Malta himself.

But why am I writing all this? It really hurts me and all the devotees of St Catherine when we hear that her life is a legend. If her story is a legend how come great saints of the Christian church say that they saw her in visions. Here I mention St Domenic who is the founder of the order of the preachers who also chose her to protect his order. St Joan of Arc who also said that she had visions of St Catherine, and the many miracles attributed to her. Besides all the churches and paintings of her all around the world. Churches are still being dedicated to her even nowadays. I don't think if the chuch has any reason to believe that her story is a fictious one it will still carry on with her devotion. And above all this in 2000 our beloved and great pope Pope John Paul the second readmitted her in the calendar for saints after visiting her Monastery on the Munt Sinai in Egypt.

I am very Happy and truly amazed to the people who have hearts in helping others. They are blessed by GOD. As I've watched the video of the Every Child Matters, I feel Happiness in my heart, encouragement and satisfaction. Happiness to those people who are willing to help without taking any exchange things. encouragement to all people who can give their help not only financially but a help comes from their heart and satisfaction to those who are not yet satisfy to their life, having a good life but contented in what they are.......Those are the children who have perception in their life and willing to learn everything. Those are the kids who need more attention and care, tohse are the fututre for the next generation. So try to help them to achieve their dreams. Don't waste our time, money and effort to the non sense things. Give them support , I know theres a lot of wealthy people in that place, I think you should think those children first before you waste your money.....try to help them and don't be selfish

This is what we truly need to have a prosperous community. The place is perfect to mold the mind of a willing child. The seed has been planted and the ball is now in the hands of Bagac residents to nurture, support and be grateful for the educational opportunity now available. Thank you De La Salle brothers.

Ever wondered why they, the prisoners of war (WWII) had to walk from Bagac to Capas?

According to the Japanese historians, Tarlac was where the prison camps at -- dun nga naman meron food supply, water and shelter for them..

we can't blame our soldiers then, siguro naubusan sila ng supplies and bullets to fight the Japanese who had the strong footings. But then, we can't blame the japs either for not treating them well during the march.. i'm sure for them, they would have executed the prisoners right there and saved them the trouble of dragging them all the way to Capas.

in the end, its war -- and hopefully it does not happen in our generation again.. peace!

I find this website a very informative one especially with regard to the history of our town Bagac, the information about the places to be visited especially the beaches and falls located in a secluded places, the current news circulating around the town, the video documentations promoting the beauty of Bagac and many many more. In this connection, may I suggest if you could provide space for a directory corner for those who graduated in Santa Catalina Institute (SCI) because I think the information there will be used as reference especially if there will be reunions, get-together and other forms of gathering. I'm looking forward to make it a reality in the near future. Congrats and more power.
